simple sunday reset routine for busy moms to prepare their home for the week

The 20-Minute Sunday Reset That Makes My Whole Week Easier

March 12, 20264 min read

A few years ago, Sundays used to stress me out.

Not because Sunday itself was busy — but because I knew Monday was coming and my house always felt a little chaotic by the end of the weekend. Laundry was piling up, the fridge had random leftovers, and I had no clear picture of what the week ahead looked like.

For a long time I thought I needed some kind of elaborate cleaning routine or hours of meal prep to get organized.

But the truth is… I don’t have time for that.

So over time I created something much simpler.

A 20-minute Sunday reset routine that helps my home feel calmer before the week begins.

It’s not complicated, it doesn’t require perfection, and it makes Mondays feel dramatically easier.

If your house ever feels a little chaotic before the week starts, this small routine might help you too.

Why I Started a Sunday Reset Routine

For a long time I thought I needed a perfect system to keep my home running smoothly.

Meal plans.
Cleaning schedules.
Complicated organization systems.

But what I really needed was just a reset point each week.

Something small that helped me:

• clear the kitchen
• see what groceries we actually had
• glance at the calendar
• reset the laundry situation

Once I started doing this consistently, Mondays stopped feeling overwhelming.

My 20-Minute Sunday Reset Routine

Here are the exact things I do most Sundays. The goal isn’t perfection — just a quick reset so the week starts calmer.

1. Clear the Kitchen Counters

The kitchen is usually the space that shows the most wear from the weekend.

Mail gets dropped there.
Groceries land there.
Random items migrate there.

So I start by clearing the counters and wiping everything down.

It takes just a few minutes but instantly makes the house feel calmer.

2. Do a Quick Fridge Check

This step saves us from a lot of wasted food.

I quickly check the fridge and:

• toss expired leftovers
• move older produce to the front
• make a mental note of what we need

This also helps when I’m thinking about meals for the week.

3. Reset the Entryway

If your entryway is messy, the house immediately feels chaotic.

Shoes pile up.
Bags get dropped.
Keys disappear.

So I spend two minutes putting everything back where it belongs.

It makes leaving the house during the week much easier.

4. Start One Load of Laundry

Laundry can get out of control quickly.

On Sundays I try to:

• fold anything sitting in baskets
• start one load if needed
• make sure everyone has clean clothes for the week

Even if it’s not fully finished, it feels more manageable.

5. Look Ahead At The Week

This is the final step and honestly the most satisfying.

I walk through the house for about 10 minutes and:

• pick up clutter
• straighten pillows
• return things to their rooms

It’s amazing how much better the house looks in such a short amount of time.

The Sunday Reset Checklist

Here’s the full reset list:

✔ Clear kitchen counters
✔ Wipe down surfaces
✔ Quick fridge check
✔ Reset the entryway
✔ Start or fold one load of laundry
✔ Review the upcoming week

That’s it.

Most weeks the whole thing takes 20 minutes or less.

But it makes Monday feel completely different.

Instead of starting the week overwhelmed, everything already feels a little more in place.
